SWTOR Guide Reviews
The highly anticipated Star Wars MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic, was released December 22, 2011 after a nearly 5 year development cycle that cost an estimated $150,000,000. The game takes place several thousand years prior to the events of the Star Wars movie series, and 300 years after the events in the Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic game. Each character class has its own storyline to follow, making SWTOR very story driven, especially for an MMORPG.
SWTOR combines elements of MMORPG games, space flight games, and is similar to other Bioware games in many respects. Your actions in the game determine your character's path through quests, how NPC (non player characters) view you, and the end-game content. SWTOR has been met with mostly positive reviews, and gained nearly 1,000,000 subscribers within 3 days of launch, making it the fastest growing MMORPG released. As with other MMORPGs, the game does have a monthly fee associated with it. As of this writing, the fee is $15/month, which goes towards game development and server costs.
Why use a guide with SWTOR?
Part of any MMORPG gaming experience is learning the game's vast and complex combat and class system, and being able to develop strategies that enhance your classes' effectiveness in questing and raiding. There are players that dedicate hundreds of hours (or more!) to learning these strategies, finding the best gear, earning the most credits, and dominating the PvP arenas. It is difficult to compete with such hardcore gamers if you do not have the time to dedicate to the same goal.
A good way to boost your skill level is by learning some of the strategies these top players use by utilizing a strategy guide or an online strategy resource. We have reviewed a number of these SWTOR guide resources on this website, along with providing some freely available strategies. There are a number of strategy guides written by players who have had access to the game long before it was publicly released (they got in on the closed beta), and there are a number of free online guides written by users. There are also player forums available where conversations about the game and strategies can be participated in. The strategy guides written by early players of the game typically cost between $18 - $50.
